In the year 1978, the organisational activities of Vivekananda Kendra started in Odisha with its first branch office in Baleswar. Over the last five decades, it has now expanded to 12 branch offices and service centres catering to the service activities in 13 districts of Odisha. In alignment with the laid down service activities of the Kendra, these branches and service centres undertake regular service activities such as Yoga Varga, Swadhyaya Varga, Samskara Varga, Yoga Prasikhyan Sibir, Adhyatmika Sibir, National Integration Camp, Health Camp, Blood Donation Camp, Environmental Cleaning Program, Plantation Program, Clothes distribution to needy people, Rural Developmental Services, Cultural Program in school and villages, Natural Calamities, and Relief Works.

It celebrates annual events such as Vivekananda Jayanti (National Youth Day) on Jan 12th, Guru Purnima (Maharshi Veda Vyasa’s birthday) on Ashadha Purnima, Universal Brotherhood Day/ Chicago Lecture Day on Sept 11th, Gita Jayanti on Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi, and Sadhana Diwas (Eknath ji’s birthday) on Nov 19th.

In the year 2006, the Vivekananda Kendra Odisha Seva Prakalpa (VK-OSP) was setup as a dedicated project of the Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, to drive the service oriented developmental works in the rural areas of Odisha, with a focus on tribal and underprivileged communities.

In the year 2020, Vivekananda Kendra Academy for Indian Culture, Yoga and Management (VK-AICYAM) was established in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) as a dedicated project of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, to undertake multifarious activities in the fields of Indian Culture, Yoga and Management in the Eastern region of India.
